I have just completed some small projects, started earlier in the year. Most of the projects have been apartments on the Atlantic Seaboard, in Cape Town. The spaces are small, with lots of lights and views of the sea.
One of the apartment's photographed is an old 70's decorated flat. It was my Client's grandparents home and so she feels very attached to still keeping the original fittings, think yellow tiles, Formica kitchen and Marley flex flooring. I looked the wild combination's so just modernized the space by painting the walls black or pale grey and redoing the floor. A small change but what a difference.
The other apartment is for a bachelor, who needed a more personal and inspiring space. This was a rental apartment so I could not paint or change any fixtures. I decided upon making up neutral key pieces such as head boards, bedside tables and display unit and purchasing arm chairs and lamps bought from Pezula. When accessorizing I found a wonderful antique suzani throw (Pezula) and matched ikats and strips together. Lastly for the Living room I was inspired by the Natal coast line, where my client is from and decided to have potted banana plants, rough linen and tropical leaf prints on the scatters cushions. So just by changing a few things a big differnce is made.
This is one of the best rewards of the job, seeing a happy client in their home.
